To There and Back Again

I was out of the country for most of last week. I didn't announce to this blog that I was going as I didn't want to worry anyone.

I went to Mexico City to meet a friend. This photo is of monument of the Angel of Independence. If you traveled down the boulevard in the direction the angel is facing you would come to the US embassy.

Interesting enough, while I was visiting so was Mrs. Obama and Secretary Clinton. So there was heightened security in the area.

I was staying in a very safe area. My friend and I often ate dinner out and would stroll the boulevard after dark. We would pass the headquarters for the Mexican Bureau of Investigation as we returned to the hotel.

The only trouble that I had during the entire trip was that the my tube of toothpaste didn't pass inspection at the Mexican airport. It was the proper size, but I don't think they were familiar with the shape of the bottle. It was easy enough to leave it behind.

I had a very pleasant trip and the four days flew by. Posting this blog is one of the details I am taking care of. I am very anxious to return to the editing of my book.

The journey continues . . .

A New Writing

I have posted another writing. I will warn that while it didn't start out about this subject, this writing is about Sacred Lovemaking. It is not graphic, but it is sensual.

It may be beyond that which some are comfortable with God talking about. Yet, it also will give the reader a deeper insight into me.

Just click on My Writings to the right of this post, and read as much or as little as you desire.

Reaching for the Heavens

This picture of redwoods seems to be reaching for the heavens. That's what last night felt like for me. A housemate and I went to a spiritual dance last night. I'm sure many may find my experience far too "woo-hoo" but it was blissful for me.

The weekly dance is held in a dance studio. The lighting is very subdued. The music is very new age, very Middle Eastern but also African, even jazzy blues.

This isn't an organized dance, or couples dancing. It's a group of individuals who tune into the music and allow their bodies to move as it will. Some dance slow and methodically, others are nearly frantic. Some are sitting and swaying to the music. Some are laying down, and moving to the music.

Even before I became heavyset, I was never a great dancer. I can't seem to connect what I feel in my mind to movement in my body. By the time I get my body to move the way I want, the music has moved on. So I have just seemed to be making awkward gyrations. Spirit dancing isn't like that for me.

It doesn't matter if I am coordinated. I just move as I desire and my body likes it. But still I couldn't seem to get out my head. Luckily, my back was spasming. (Do you see what this implies? My back is spasming with pain and I see it as lucky, or as a blessing?) I decided to lay down.

I closed my eyes and seemed to instantly connect to my spirit body. I envisioned my spirit body dancing. This sort of played like a video on the back of my eyelids. I felt myself dancing around a fire. At times I was Native American, others African, Aborigine, and Chinese. I morphed from one dance and clan to another according to the music. And I soon found myself in a state of bliss.

I would open my eyes and be surprised to see people dancing around me. Forty-five minutes had passed. I would close my eyes again and be back in bliss. I moved to another spot on the floor (trying to find a cooler spot.) Once again I closed my eyes and was in bliss.

I would open my eyes and be fully conscious for a few seconds, close them again and be in bliss. Near the end of the dance, I opened my eyes to find my housemate dancing near me. I smiled at her. I thought to get up and dance with her, but closed my eyes and was once again at bliss.

This very much an out-of-body experience. I struggled to come into consciousness. I realized the evening was nearly over and I got up to dance a bit. Yet, I was not fully present either. I was half in body and half in spirit. Very surreal. Very blissful.

The last couple of songs were soft and quiet, and I sort of step-walked through them. And then the group circled up, held hands, announced our names, and were thankful for the dance.

I was not fully conscious. Those who deeply meditate will know the feeling I am speaking about. I could have come fully conscious, but was enjoying the afterglow of bliss. My housemate drove home for me. And slowly I came fully into consciousness.

Now, all told I may have danced for 25-30 minutes, in three different sessions. Ten minutes at the last. And I was utterly exhausted. My body felt as if I had danced the entire time. And being at such a high energy can be exhausting as well.

This was different from the ecstasy dance that I previously experienced. But I like equally well. I would do either of them again.

These are my thoughts this morning.

And yes, the journey is continuing . . . maybe just a little more blissfully than before.

My Writings

Have you ever wondered what it's like to talk to God? Or in doing so, what my life might be like? Or what God and I talk about? Well here's your opportunity.

From time to time, I am going to post some of my writings. If you have the patience, you will find a new insight to God and what my conversations with him is like. Now, just to clarify, I hear God as a male voice and I often refer to him as Father. But by no means am I limited by that. I am as comfortable with God as a female as with a male. It is simply my experience to hear a male voice.

Now, you may think it takes gall to say that I talk with God. Some may think the very idea is blasphemous but I mean no disrespect. In my experience, it doesn't take gall, it takes heart.

In addition to an insight into God, you will get a glimpse into my life and how I live life as I am guided by God. The only change to the posting will be a removal of names. I'm sure you will understand why.

If you are interested in reading my writings then to the right of this posting there is a box headed My Writings. I will add links as I post writings.

Blessings to everyone.

Deep Contemplation

Before I share what I have been thinking about I thought I'd tell you this is another shot from my Jean Houston weekend. By the time I return, the trees will be leaved out. The IONS retreat center is very environmentally conscious. All of the lawns are maintained . . . by sheep.

Over the last week, I have been contemplating the deep thoughts of life. Specifically the balance of love and sorrow or pain. I have thought of the pain I have caused in my relationships. I have tried to balance those thoughts with the amount of love that I have also brought to these relationships.

So often as evolved spiritual beings we think that we only bring love to the equation. That is a very limited view and bypasses being responsible for the pain/sorrow we also cause.

The more I pondered this paradox the more I understood the balance of all of life. The great Yin/Yang of the universe. Everything is balanced.

I have come to realize that you cannot have love without sorrow. Love is balanced by sorrow, by heartache. If we did not have the pain/sorrow we might not be able to understand the exquisiteness of love.

Such deep thoughts do not necessarily bring one to a clear conclusion. Except that one is not better than the other. Just as I know I have caused others to feel intensely loved, I have also caused deep sorrow. I take responsibility for both.

Blessed be those who I have loved. Blessed be those who I have hurt. Blessed be those I will love. Blessed be those I will hurt. Blessed Be!

Still Difficult

During the Jean Houston weekend, we meet and sleep at one end of the retreat center and the dining hall is on the other end. This photo is of view along the walk. These are the hills just outside Petaluma and presently they are lush and green. Soon there will be wildflowers. This is the rainy season and so everything looks lush, but it will not be long before they will dry up and be golden brown.

It is still difficult to articulate the changes that have occurred in me over the last week or so. I was going to mention my daily meditation but realized I didn't meditate yesterday. Damn. Good habits are so hard to form. I will have to get to that directly.

I did manage to sit and converse with my book and I have a better idea of how to proceed. But my time has been filled with personal growth. I have been working with someone on my body image issues. She insists I learn to love the scar that splits my body. And I'm rather resistant to the idea. I am helping her with her own issues. We exchange long emails filled with love, healing energy and at rare moments even passion.

Do not allow yourself to be small-minded. Think beyond the obvious. Passion does not equate to sex. No, no, and no, this woman is not a lover.

It IS possible to share a deep love, even a deep passion with a woman and not be her lover or her mine. We share a deep unconditional love that we share through our spirituality. We share a deep passion for life. Yes, it IS possible to share thoughts about sensuality and sexuality and NOT be lovers. Mostly what we bring to each other is a new understanding, a new perspective about the personal issues we are each presently working on.

I am profoundly blessed to have this woman presently in my life. I have not loved like this since a previous long distance relationship that some readers of this blog know about. Even that comparison does not do justice to my feelings. The love I feel is intense, and somehow at a higher level than I have previously experienced. It is something that has moved beyond the need to be expressed physically. I know that is a very difficult concept for some people (mostly men) to conceive, but it is possible, and I'm experiencing it.

More and more often these posts are going to include my thoughts and experiences in an effort to help the readers of this blog move beyond their present thinking. I sincerely think of myself as deeply spiritual--a highly evolved spiritual being. But I didn't get here instantly. I am still evolving. So is everyone. I got here by others sharing their thoughts, their evolution, and so I am going to try to share more so that the evolution can be observed. And perhaps, just perhaps inspire your evolution as well.

Artticulating the Change in Me

My housemate and I have tried to capture the essence of our workshop experience.

At the first Mystery School weekend, we learned to:

Transcend our preconceptions of our relationship to space and time, and access elevated consciousnesses; in order to heal ourselves, and clarify and manifest our second destiny.

I know that there are those reading this that will only see that statement as gobblee-gook. And yet I know there are those who pause to ponder that statement and start to understand it. This statement declares that as spirits we are not limited in anyway--not even by space or time. We also have access to elevated spirit (spirit guides, angels, mythological archetypes, or God, Allah. The Universe.) Jean speaks of second destiny but the phrase "life calling" may be more readily understood.

I woke up this morning with an absolute knowing: that we must go to the future to heal our past, and our past to heal our future. That statement makes no sense if you are stuck within a limited view of space and time. It only works if you bypass the linear concept of time. Yes, I notice that it never mentions the present. Time is an illusion and so is the golden moment of now--the present. In an instant it has become the past, and the next instant is the future.

I know I have taught that there is only the golden moment of now and to stay in the moment. And that is still a true teaching. We far too often get cause up in fear of the future and the pain of the past.

Yes, I realize my statement of knowing is just opposite to what one might think to be true. Go to the future to heal our past? To our past to heal our future? The only way I can explain it, the only way I can grasp it is to transcend my relationship to space and time.

I have had great difficulty trying to articulate some of the changes brought on by the weekend spent with Jean Houston. After reading this, you may think I have "gone off the deep end." And perhaps your are correct for my head seems to be filled with very deep thoughts. (You can check out my Praise Blog for last night's thoughts.)

I have often had these type of thoughts and understandings. I have not shared them as I was not sure those reading this blog would appreciate them. These are thoughts to ponder and there is no correct or wrong answers--just pondering.

I am more clear of mind that I have ever been. I am more focused. It has taken me longer to type my thoughts than the time I took to ponder them.

In the spirit of being a Spiritual Evocateur, I have shared these thoughts. I feel I have under-utilized this blog to share my thoughts and experiences. I hope to change that. Not every blog will resonate with every person reading this. Yet, it may just cause you to think, to question your assumptions.

And yes, I will explain what I mean by Spiritual Evocateur . . . in a later post.

Changes

Over the next several days you are going to notice some changes in this blog. I attended the first session Jean Houston's Mystery School over the weekend. It was a phenomenal experience. I will be writing and blogging about that over the next week or so.

Meanwhile, I am making/have made many changes in my life. This blog will reflect those changes.

I have added links to the Mystery School as well created a new blog that will record my thoughts during daily meditation/reflection.

The biggest change is ironically the smallest to notice on this blog. My name. Most of you, if not all of you, who are reading this know me as Rick. There are a few who read this who know me as Ricky. If you have used these nicknames for years and decades it may be difficult for you to think of me in any other way. I will honor your habit, but know that I will no longer use it when introducing myself.

Using my given name is a reflection of the changes deep within myself. These changes started back in October, so this is not a sudden decision. Choosing to use Richard honors both the changes and who I feel I now am.

I am not being pretentious--I am being authentic. And please don't leap to the conclusion that I am taking myself too seriously; for if anything, I haven't taken myself seriously enough. I DO take myself seriously and have serious work to accomplish.

While at the workshop, I took some great pictures of the green hills near Petaluma, California. Spring is already here. The redbud trees, fruit trees, and tulip trees have all bloomed. I know my beloved friends and family are still experiencing snow, and I am sending this small breath of spring your way.

Spring--a time of new birth, new beginnings--I felt much the same--as I continue to spiritually evolve. The more I evolve the more I love myself, the more I love you, the more I love God.

Meanwhile the journey continues . . . .

Shift Happens

Shift upon shift upon shift.
And I’m here to tell you that shift happens.

I have not fulfilled my last posting. I have not written to God on a daily basis. I thought my February was going to be filled with writing and editing. Instead, I have been on a path of personal growth.

The first shift:

I have previously reported of having gone through a deep process in October in which I gave up my habits of self-judgment, self-loathing and self-hatred. I’m not sure if I told you that it was during this process that I learned of the origins of my testicular cancer. I am sure that I have not reported that during that process I apologized to my unborn children—a girl, a boy, and a second girl. Oh, I know this all may be all too weird or too new age for some who are reading this. Yet, it is a very real experience for me. And it had a profound effect upon me. It would be several months before I realized the extent of that effect.

It started during my visit back east and involves a heart connection. Notice that I didn’t say love or falling in love. It involved someone I had dated in my past who I was having a casual lunch with. During which I was having intense feelings of wanting to kiss her, and to make love to her. This wasn’t about lust, but was about a heart connection. These feelings were overwhelming and confusing. I didn’t understand them as I knew I was not in love with the woman in question.

It took me several days after our lunch to make sense of my experience. When I can’t make sense of something in the physical sense, I start looking for the spiritual reason. I sincerely believe this was the soul I was suppose to have children with. I’m not clear if that means with this woman or with another incarnation of this soul. And perhaps it is even possible we have had children in past lives. All I do know was that these feelings were intense and overwhelming. But once I understood them, I was able to move through them and go on with my life. Or so I thought.

As I returned to California, I continued to be overwhelmed by these feelings. They would be triggered by either a phone call or email from the woman in question. I am not in love with this woman, we are just friends and casual friends at that. I might add she is in another relationship. I am aware of these things, even as I am overwhelmed with this primal urge to procreate. It is so powerful, so primal that it can overwhelm my logic, my heart . . . and even my faith.

I have struggled to keep focused on my book and my journey of the heart. I sincerely believe that my book, when published, will change lives. I have been shown this in my visions and have written about it within many, many writings. I know of this. I have made huge changes in my life to write this book. This book has become my life. Only those within my most intimate of circles knew that I was considering giving up it all up to come back to Illinois to explore fatherhood. (Remember I said this primal huge had overwhelmed my logic.)
It took all of my spiritual wisdom and maturity to not act upon these feelings and just to be with them. I stopped resisting the feelings. Instead I tried to embrace them as real and worth exploring. What you resist, persists. I believe Carl Jung was credited with that principle.

I told my housemates and a few members of family of the internal struggle I was going though. I also stopped working on the book. And beyond the one writing that I did on February 1st, I stopped writing. And you might find it interesting to know that I did not see this as a crisis of faith, as my faith was still very strong. I just felt overwhelmed by this primal urge to be a father.

Saying I stopped resisting doesn’t mean I gave up. I was scheduled to attend the Conscious Life Expo over Valentine’s Day weekend. I set a very strong intention that I would come to clarity about this matter. (You can still check it out at www.consciouslifeexpo.com)

This expo was filled with lectures, workshops and keynote speakers. Many of the new-age, self-help authors were going to be there. I attended talks given by don Miguel Ruiz (The Four Agreements), Debbie Ford (The Dark Side of the Light Chasers: Reclaiming Your Power), and Jean Houston (Jump Time: Shaping Your World in a Time of Radical Change).

I know this is an extraordinarily long post, but if you’re not really interested in reading about my life, you stopped reading a long time ago. Lol. I want to share a seemingly small synchronicity that eventually led to my third shift.

Friday Night:

I had made extensive notes of what sessions I had wanted to attend and managed to leave back at the house. My housemate and I were on the way to dinner, having decided we would not attend any sessions and just explore the exhibitor halls.

A man stepped onto the elevator with Speaker Badge. I asked if he was giving a lecture tonight or later in the weekend. He answered in an hour and told us his lecture was on Birthing Your Book with Ease. I remembered that was one of the lectures I had wanted to attend, but without my notes had forgotten.

I could not ignore such a synchronicity and attended his lecture. Several points he made really resonated with me. The most significant of which was not to think of editing as editing but as revision, as in revisiting the vision of your book. I have soooo struggled with editing, and this was much needed shift in my thinking. He went on to speak about spiritually editing and getting in touch with The Voice of The Muse. Already—within hours of arriving at the expo—the universe was already contriving to bring clarity to my confusion.

Saturday:

don Miguel Ruiz:

He was very soft spoken and even with his voice amplified I had to listen closely. His talk was about The 5th Agreement. Just as a reminder, remember that the four agreements to not sin against yourself are: Be impeccable with your word. Don’t take anything personally. Don’t make assumptions. Always do your best. These are four easily stated concepts that are difficult to live, and is something one must constantly renew within themselves. I have a quote from this book on my wall. “Don’t believe me. Don’t believe yourself. Don’t believe anybody else. But learn to listen.”

This is about how we get caught up in our dramas and our stories and learning to rise above them and knowing our true selves. The 5th Agreement is about moving even beyond the four and mastering the art of being. I am that I am. Probably the most provocative thing he thing he had to say was: “Either you are happy, or you are being stupid.” He went on to explain about being addicted to suffering, heartache, and drama. Until you aren’t.

Debbie Ford:

Debbie’s talk was about embracing the dark side of ourselves. Far too often as spiritually conscious people, we try to bypass or ignore our dark sides. We often make ourselves wrong for these very real aspects of ourselves. She spoke about being bitchy and how that quality can sometimes serve her. This entire talk was really an application of my earlier quote from Carl Jung; What you resist, persists. By embracing our darker side, we can use it and even let it go. It was a fun lecture and at the end of it she had us all up on our feet shouting affirmations culminating with: I am hot, gorgeous and delicious. (And by the way, she really is hot and gorgeous and I obviously didn’t get to find out about the delicious part. Lol.)

Master Mingtong Gu & Lucinda Drayton:

Saturday night, I attended a Wisdom Healing Spiral. This was a walking meditation in the form of a inner/outer spiral that tapped into the energy of the Milky Way. It was led by Master Gu and accompanied by Lucinda Drayton. Lucinda’s voice is so pure that the vibration of it seemed to transport me to the heavens. Some of you may be familiar with her voice as female lead in the band Bliss.

This too was a powerful experience. The group walked and chanted together. I felt the power of our combined energies. This experience reminded me of scene at the Tree of Souls in the movie Avatar where the entire clan is chanting and combining their energies on behalf of one.

Sunday:

Jean Houston and my second shift:

I attended this keynote speech with my housemate. I have set here for several moments trying to come up with the words to explain what happened. Let me start with Jean Houston herself. What a wonderfully dynamic, soulful, enlightened being. Yet so down to earth, who makes you feel as if she is speaking only to you.

But it was more than that. Jean sees our bigger selves. If you have you have seen the movie Avatar and understand the expression, “I see you” then you will understand the feeling I got from this talk. She conveys all of this in both a humorous and profound way. She enables you to stop seeing the “small you” and not to just envision the “big you” but to feel that energy. The “big you” who is one of and with the universe.

She spoke of her intense hatred of writing. She has authored more than twenty-six books, and she hates to write. She went on to explain of her many, many personas. And that she calls up whatever persona she needs in the given moment. She is an excellent cook—she loves to cook—and is very good at it. And it is the cook within her that has written her books. It’s all a matter of mindset.

She led us through a meditation where we met our higher selves. We stood with our hands out, palms up. We envisioned our higher selves standing before us hands out, palms down. And with that connection our higher selves downloaded the information we needed to evolve in our present day lives. She then had us turn around and see ourselves as our higher selves with our palms down. In that moment I was filled with such deep love for myself—it was incredible. I know I over use the word profound, but it is the only word that readily comes to mind.

One of the last things she did was to help us to time travel. Yes, I did just say time travel. She spoke of being able to learn all you need to know about any given subject by simply envisioning the process. She told us to imagine traveling to any place in time. Some choose to travel around the world. Some to talk with loved ones. Some chose to see the next year in their lives.

I chose to visit Abraham Lincoln in his office at the White House. I sat beside his desk. He put down his pen and sat back. He brought his hands together in a triangle form, just under his nose as he contemplated me. He put his hands down and said, “Greatness is not something you are. It is something that is thrust upon you. I never saw myself as great. I never thought I did all that much. What I did do, and quite well I might add, was to focus on the task at hand. I did the best I could. God Almighty brought me to the task at hand and all I did was to do it to the best of my ability. All you need to do is the task at hand and greatness will be thrust upon you.” He leaned forward, picked up his pen, and went back to this correspondence. He paused, raised his head to look at me and I saw the weariness upon his face. His eyes were filled wit such compassion, such love, such wisdom and he quietly, softly said, “Greatness is upon you.” He returned to his correspondence. My friends, what is even more amazing than these shared words is that this mediation was only a minute long—timed to the second.

Of all the sessions I attending this was the only one that the audience erupted into a standing ovation.

I cannot articulate exactly what shifted in me that day. Imagine that your state of being is sitting at twelve noon and in the space of a few minutes—maybe even in a few seconds—you found yourself at three o’clock. It was such a huge shift that it boggled my mind and I was speechless.

We had break before our evening session and we elected to leave the hotel. We traveled the short distance to Manhattan Beach. As we drove I mostly remained silent, contemplating what had just happened. It was beautiful sunny day in the upper 70’s. I walked barefoot on the beach, and walked in the surf. (The water was cold!)

During our dinner conversation, my housemate and I decided we are going to attend Jean Houston’s Mystery School. This is a group of five weekend retreats. The first one is next weekend. You can find out more at http://www.jeanhouston.org/mysteryschool-new.cfm

If you’re still interested, then I’ll tell you about my third shift. And thank all of those who have had the patience to read all of this.

Third Shift:

While this shift happened on the Tuesday following the Expo, it started when I attended Mark Gerson’s class on Birthing Your Book With Ease on Friday night. I met with him for a brief consultation and hired him to consult on my book.

I was luckily enough to meet him on Tuesday before he returned to his home in New Mexico. He led me through a meditation to find the vision of my book.

If you don’t already know guided meditation is a great way to get beyond your preconceived ideas and in touch with your inner wisdom. I have found it to be a powerful tool in my personal journey of evolution.

Mark led me to envision my book and for the first time, I saw it as a separation entity. I know with all of my ability to feel/converse with a wide variety of entities, it would seem that I should have known this. But I didn’t. In fact, this was the first time I had ever gotten in touch with my book. Let me tell you some of what I experienced as I envisioned the book that using my five senses.

What did the book look like?

I pictured it as dark or black with a back-glow of energy radiating from behind/underneath it. The rays of energy were dynamic and moving, almost pulsing. I realized this book was/is alive—it is a living entity.

At first, my eyes welled up with tears. (Even with my eyes closed.) And soon a tear trickled down my cheek.

As I pondered where this energy was coming from, I could sense a stream of energy coming from above and from below it. These force fields fed the energy of this book. The lower stream represented my own energy and the upper energy was from God. I was instantly filled with God’s love for me. (This was when my tears started.) I also felt my love for God. I met it equally and our combined energies were manifested in our book. Tears started to flow.

What did the book smell like?

I was surprised by this question and that I could actually smell the book. It smelled of old paper with a combination of dusty and musty. It felt as if the book was an ancient text—that it contained ancient wisdom. I could also smell ink, and good hear the scratch of a quill upon the page.

Next, came taste:

Again, this question surprised me. It tasted of sweat and of blood. Not in a sacrificial way Behind that flavor was a taste I can only identify as love. Love of God—both two and from. I cannot tell you what love tastes like, yet I knew it was present.

I was asked to feel my book:

I was surprised by its weight in my hands. This could because of the number of pages or because of the import of the content, or a combination of two. I could feel the heft of book within my hands.

I next felt my connection to the book:

I could feel the flow of energy/communication flow down through my crown chakra, to my heart chakra, and then radiate down my arm to hand and through my pen. As my tears surged, I was overwhelmed with the knowledge of being God’s Messenger. I was both humbled and in awe of this. I sat for long moments as the tears streamed down my face.

Mark next asked what the book wanted from me:

I nearly sobbed when I felt the answer: my life. Not in a literal sense—not my true life blood—but the example of my life—warts and all. The book asked for my authenticity—my willingness to share such deep things even the ugliness of my life. The book asked for the reality of my life—the joys, the sorrows, the pain, and the triumphs. Once again I was humbled to have this asked of me.

And lastly, Mark asked what would be the outcome of the book:

Now, it might seem natural to think the answer would involve the publishing of the book and the subsequent reading of it. The answer stunned me and renewed my tears.

To make me whole—and as I heard the word, it morphed into holy. Even now as I type this, tears well up.

With that, the meditation was complete. It took me several long minutes to compose myself enough to be able to jot down some notes about what I had just experienced.

Mark left me with an assignment to talk to my book. And to re-read my manuscript, asking it what it wants to be. I have not yet done that assignment

I have been busy adjusting to the shifts. Such major shifts take their toll and I have been fatigued. It has taken over a week to write this narrative.

Additionally, I went through another major shift this weekend that seems to have left me feeling even more empowered. Shift upon shift upon shift upon shift.

Balance:

I am currently diligently working to bring myself back in balance as I prepare for my weekend with Jean Houston. I seem to be going a great period of personal growth. And this weekend is about my personal development. I was presented with another opportunity for personal development that represented a year-long commitment. After much thought, I have declined. I strongly feel I need to balance my personal growth, development along with the work on my book.

Next week, I hope to get back in touch with my book and go from there.

Over the past few weeks, many have held me in their thoughts and lifted me up in their prayers. I thank each and every one. And I thank those readers who had the patience to read this entire post. Blessing to each of you.

The journey continues . . .

New Collection

After having lost both the printed and electronic copies of my original quote collection (and having stressed out over it) I have built a new one. It took me a couple of days to get the job done. Presently there are 110 quotes posted on my closet doors. I'm sure more will be added as they come across my email.

I use the quotes to bring a very positive energy to my space. After completing this post, I will also unwrap and display my angel collection. All in an effort to make my room a bit more conducive to writing. And editing.

Next week, I will begin writing to God on a daily basis again. Or so I have been told. Additionally I will buckle down to some heavy duty editing.

And so the journey continues.

Beautiful

The landscape along I-76 between Grand Junction, Colorado and Las Vegas, Nevada is absolutely stunning . As I headed east early in January all of this was bare. It was even more beautiful when snow covered. I will post additional photos over the next week or so.
I have made it safely back to California and I have seemed to bring the cold weather with me--it was 37 this morning when I got up.

To There and Back Again

During my last post I worked hard to remain mysterious about my plans for January. Many of the faithful readers of this blog were surprised my visit to Iowa and Illinois. I saw many friends and family. I had hoped to visit more of my friends and particularly my poker friends.

That all changed when I learned that one of my housemates is planning to visit Haiti in near future. On Sunday while traveling to Iowa for my aunt's birthday party, my guides advised me that I needed to be back in California. Sooner rather than later.

As I needed to conduct some business with CEFCU, I returned to Illinois on Monday. I couldn't leave until Tuesday morning. After driving 14 hours, I have made it to Denver.

I'm sorry that my visit was cut short and wish I could have seen more people. Perhaps I'll be able to sneak into another visit in the spring.

Meanwhile, the journey continues . . .

Editing

I'm always surprised to find that it's been weeks since I last posted. I do have a good excuse--or not. I have been editing.

I am quite surprised to learn that editing seems to take ten times as much time and effort as the original writing did.

I must once again praise my housemate who serves as my editor. She is gentle and kind and yet very direct. Did I mention she has taught English? She has helped to guide me as I cut pages and expanded ideas that were not completely fleshed out.

I must also say that God has proved to be very cooperative in this process. I have not heard objections as I have cut dialog. (Most of which was not pertinent to the book.) God has also added dialog as needed as well. So, all in all--the editing process is much like our normal dialogs.

I have completed five chapters, some 57 pages. These pages are fully formatted and would be ready for the publisher.

I am currently working on Chapter 6 and hope to have it completed before the end of January. Please keep in mind as it is currently written it is 45 pages. Most likely it will get broken down into smaller chapters. We shall see.

I would like to think I'm working on the final draft of the book, but that is not realistic. But once this draft is completed. I will read through it all again to see if it flows properly. My editor will as well and we'll go from there.

Now as to my personal life. There are many who want to know if I am dating anyone. And while I could answer that it's none of your business, the simple truth is that I am not. I have concentrated on my personal growth and the editing of the book.

For the longest time, I didn't think it would be possible to live the intent of this book and have enough energy to devote to a relationship. I have come to rethink that. This has much to do with deep inner work I have done over the last few months. So I will tell you this: one of my intents for next year is to have a meaningful relationship.

That statement is far too short for all that it involves. I have not come up with the exact intent, as I haven't decided exactly what it is that I'm looking for. Much of my thought process has been about what I don't want. The one thing I have decided is that I would like the person to be a spiritual peer. I'll update this blog as I gain clarity on the matter.

Over Christmas I was able to visit my favorite redwood forest. It was a little cool--in the 50's and damp. I so love the connection I feel when visiting old forests.

Speaking of connection--if you have not seen the movie Avatar yet--I can't recommend it highly enough. I was very moved by it.

I have big plans for January and will announce them soon.

Meanwhile, the journey continues.

Feeling Guilty

As I drove back from a job interview today, I was feeling guilty. It is a beautiful sunny day with the temperature in the 50's. It feels a little cool to me. My jacket felt good. And I realized what the weather was back in Illinois: windy, snow with snow blowing and a high of 15. Makes me feel guilty. Luckily, the feeling doesn't last long. lol. The closest I have come to snow is to see it on the mountain tops.

Meanwhile I am busy editing and enjoying the sunshine.

Progress

My previous posting included a picture of El Capitan taken at Tunnel View. If you turn 180 degrees you see this tunnel. I never said I had much sense, so I stood in the middle of the road for this photo to be taken. (It's not the same as playing in traffic--but it's close.)

Once again it took me a couple of days to recover from my visit. Three days of traveling over 6 hours did me in.

My housemate had edited Chapter 2 while I was gone and provided feedback. Today I was able to make the corrections--and additions--to the chapter and am happy to report it now complete.

On to Chapter 3 which will nearly double the size of the edited book. Ohhhh, the power of the red pen.

The Journey continues.

Yosemite

During my extended stay over Thanksgiving weekend, my cousins and I made a trip to Yosemite National Pakr. This is El Capitan and believe it or not, there are two rock climbers about half way up the mountain side. The park was both beautiful and awesome. Over the next few weeks, I will post other pictures.

I am finally back in Chatsworth. Due to the trip to the park, I have traveled 6 hours over each of the last three days. It feels good to be back. I have not worked on the book since before Thanksgiving. I did spend some time writing on Tuesday morning.

I did not do well in my battle with suagr over the weekend, but am determined to return to it.

Meanwhile the Journey continues.

Book Progress

No progress report could be complete without mentioning what I have accomplished with my book editing.

I have spent some time perfecting the book's typography format. It's looking good, even if I do say so myself. This is done with an eye to self publishing but we shall see.

One of my housemates serves as my editor. She has not been familiar with my past writings and so brings a new perspective that I respect. Her insights are very valuable. At her suggestion I have even been known to delete whole paragraphs--even half page at a time.
a
So I imagine that leaves a question in your mind if I edit God's words. The simple answer is yes--judiciously. And I might add, often with God's input. I am very careful never to change the context. Mostly it's errors in grammar that I'm correcting.

That being said, I have completed the Author's Note, The Introduction, and Chapter One. Now, that is not how I originally laid it out. The Introduction was Chapter One, and Chapter was Chapter Two. No matter. So I was ready to move onto the next chapter--what had been known as Chapter Three.

As I started editing, it didn't seem to make sense. It didn't flow from where the last chapter left off. And then it referenced something to the last chapter that didn't exist in the last chapter. I got very confused as to what was going on.

Finally I noticed the dates of the writings and realized a day was missing. Luckily, when I compiled my daily writings into chapters, I had saved the daily writings separately and was able to find the missing chapter. Seven pages worth. And that's what I'm working on now. I took time out to make these posts.

On Wednesday I will returning to Santa Rosa to have Thanksgiving with my cousins and will spend the long weekend with them. One of my cousins from Illinois will be visiting and we are all scheduled to visit Yosemite National Park on Monday. I hope to return to here by Tuesday.

As Thanksgiving approaches I am extremely grateful for my life. This Journey has not been easy, but I have no regrets. None. Gratitude is my attitude.

Blessed Be!

Personal Progress

Several weeks ago I posted a writing I received from God in which He strongly suggested that I excise the nasty habits I have of self-judgment and self-loathing. Only in the vaguest sense have I reported my progress in this effort. I have mentioned that I had been working personal processes that my housemates had been supporting in.

I now wish to give a progress report. In actuality I had excised these habits just prior to our visit to the Sequoia National Forest. As is typical with me it involved a two part emotional process which took place over a week's time.

The first part is always the most difficult which is getting "in touch" with the feelings. The deeper the issue the more difficult this is to do. I can say that this issue was at the deepest core of my very being. I have never worked a deeper issue and it was highly emotional.

I got in touch with the very source of my self-judgment and self-loathing. It was not that I didn't love myself. It wasn't because I thought I was unlovable. It was because I hated myself.

Now, I know that is a shocking statement and many of you will want to immediately refute it. But I can tell you that it took a great deal of effort to get to that feeling. The good news is once you get in touch with something, then you can process it and heal it.

It is a peculiarity of mine that once I get in touch with such feelings I like to "be" with it for a while before I further process it. I figure it has taken me a lot of effort and energy to get in touch with whatever I'm processing. Once I have done so, I like to figure out how it has served me and my life. Once I understand I am then willing to release it.

Due to circumstances I did not have the luxury of spending as much time with these feelings as I would have liked. Two days later in the second part of the process I emotionally released the self-hatred which often manifested itself as self-judgment and self-loathing.

As is also typical with me, I have written a narrative of my process but have yet to decide if I will post it here. I do think that others might gain insight to their own lives by sharing it but it is deeply personal and I haven't decided to share it yet.

I am posting this limited report on my progress. I can tell you that these nasty habits have been excised as God had suggested. I really do follow His guidance in nearly all aspects of my life. The habits are simply gone and have been replaced with self-love which continues to manifest itself in interesting ways.

My choice to get off sugar is one of ways. Another is how I presently criticize myself. When I observe something I haven't accomplished, a fault, or even a mistake, I really don't judge myself about it. I observe it, and see the opportunity for improvement. There is no judgment, just opportunity.

So with love and affection and maybe even a little pride, I can say: The Journey continues.

Two Weeks!

As of tomorrow it will be two weeks without sugar! As in all things in my life, it has been an interesting journey. It has not been without its failures: The 2nd day I had a breath mint. Yes, I know that seems like a small thing but it was an unconscious thought at intermission during a play. A week ago I had a bottle of Gatorade while at the movies. I had selected it instead of a bottle of water and at $3 a bottle I wasn't going to throw it away. I chart my success and I did not allow myself to mark[X] those two days as successes even if to the greater degree they were.

This has been a far greater struggle than I thought it would be. I expected to have wtihdrawals and cravings during the first 72 hours, but this has lasted As amazing as it might seem for those who know me, I have not craved chocolate. Instead I crave sugar in general. Yesterday was a day of struggle. I didn't dare allow myself go out alone to eat or even to the store. I am happy to report that it became a red letter day.

I am happy with my success so far. It has forced me to eat even healthier than I was. Fruit is the only sugar I allow myself. I don't even drink fruit juice.

I am equally happy to report that today is an empowered day. I was able to go to the store to shop. I even found some sugar-free creamer so that I can start having coffee again. I have not been able to find my favorite Southern Roasted Pecan coffee out here. That's a hint to all those Santa's out there.

You're Not Going To Believe This

Over last weekend my housemates and I went up into the Sierra Nevada mountains to Sequoia National Forest to hold a retreat. We stayed in what was formerly housing for lumberjacks. It wasn't as rustic as that sounds, as this was a modern lumber camp. This picture is not of that area. (This was taken in the park by the condominium complex we live in.)

I had left my camera in Santa Rosa during my last visit. We visited the 100 Giants trail which was about 10 miles from where we stayed. It was great to walk beside these giant Sequoias. Many of these were even bigger than what I saw when visiting the Ave of the Giants. My friend took a few pictures and when she sends them to me, I'll post them. Now that I got that out of the way, let me get back to what happened during the retreat.

If you are a reader of this blog, then you are use to reading about profound and miraculous events in my life. This retreat was not like that. I didn't work any deep issues through some emotional process. The whole point about working one's issues is about gaining personal power. What we learned this weekend just adds to that. This retreat was designed as a growth experience. We studied the five levels of intention and personal empowerment. We looked and studied seven ways we mismanage personal power and seven techniques to developing personal power.

During this retreat I came to recognize many of the ways I waste my personal energy. One of those ways is my addiction. And I have decided to change that. As of today. In the ways of all recovering addicts I shall just concentrate on today. Yep, you're not going to believe this, but I'm going to get off sugar.

Those of you who know me personal (and that's mostly who reads this blog) you know that I have been addicted to sugar for years, even decades. As I was recently told I am diabetic, this will improve my health as well.

I have had, do have a terrible, terrible sweet tooth that I over indulge. Twice in my life I have gotten off sugar when I was dieting. I hated doing so. This is a different mind set. It's about personal empowerment. The next 72 hours is usually the worse. I have a headache, I am irritable and grouchy. I have warned my housemates about this withdrawal period. They have joyfully offered to let me be as grouchy as I want. Which of course means, I probably won't be. (It's not nearly as much fun being grouchy if others think it's okay to be and even welcome it as part of your personal process.)

That is exactly why I am here living with these friends. I have been working on deep personal issues through many processes including very emotional processes. My friends have supported me through these processes just as they are with my withdrawal from my sugar addiction. We lovingly support each other. As much as it is possible we live in unconditional love.

Meanwhile, I have made progress on editing the book. The Author's Note, Introduction and Chapter One are complete. That's not how I wrote it. The Introduction was Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 is now Chapter 1. One of my friends in the house is proofreading the edited work and providing valuable feed back. I spent 4 days on Chapter 1. (I only work in the morning-early afternoon for 4 hours.) I like how the chapter came out. It is presently in my friend's hands to proofread.

I am left with only one thought out the editing process: if it took me 4 days to edit 10 pages, how long will it take to edit the two 90 page chapters that I have?

I'll report my progress on both my sugar addiction and editing.

The Journey continues.
